Sonika Vaid is 20 years old and is from Weston, MA. She has been singing for as long as she can remember, but she was extremely shy so she didn’t sing in front of anyone. When the opportunity of participating on the final season of American Idol presented itself, she knew that she needed to take a break from her college studies and pursue one of her greatest passions.
She felt it was truly a blessing every day she was in the competition and never thought, in her wildest dreams; she would make it as far as she did.
Making it as far as a top 5 finalist on the show was such an honor and she will always hold that experience so close to her heart. Sonika learned to persevere and truly embrace who she was throughout her journey. Now, her true goal is to give others the strength and courage to be proud of who they are and believe in their dreams.
“I had so many opportunities to sing when I was a little kid, and I never took them up,” Vaid told NBC News. “I was just really comfortable being behind the piano because I would play upright piano, and I could perform in assemblies, and no one would see my face”.
And on Friday, she will be performing for you at the 2016 PANIIT Leadership Conference.
Come listen to her on the opening night of this conference.
