Vijay Kumar provides leadership for sustainable technology-enabled educational innovation at MIT. Currently, as Associate Dean, he leads Strategic Educational Initiatives in MIT’s Office of Digital Learning. Vijay’s research and professional engagements are directed toward advancing technological innovations as well as open education resources for educational transformation worldwide. These include initiatives with the Smithsonian, India National Knowledge Commission, and UNESCO. Vijay is a member of the Advisory Committee of MIT OpenCourseWare, and a co-editor of “Opening Up Education” (MIT Press, August 2008).
His current projects include the Tata-MIT CLIx initiative, the Woodrow Wilson-MIT Teaching Systems Lab, the MIT Haiti initiative and the DOE supported Fly-By-Wire project among others. Vijay has been awarded an Honorary Professorship at Tianjin Open University and is a Distinguished Alumnus of IIT Madras. He has a B.Tech. ( Chem Engg) and M.S. (Ind. Mgmt) from IIT Madras and Ed. D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
