Mark is the research director and co-founder of OpenBiome. Mark trained as a microbiologist at MIT, where he earned his PhD and completed a post-doctoral fellowship using high-throughput sequencing to gain insights into the structure, function and dynamics of the human microbiome. Mark’s research and commentary has been published in leading journals like Nature, PNAS and NEJM. Mark launched OpenBiome in response to personal exposure to the clinical potential of FMT and deep concerns over safe access for patients in need. Beyond the human impact, Mark is excited to extend OpenBiome as a platform for catalyzing research into the microbiome.
