Niranjan Kanesa-thasan MD MTMH FIDSA FASTMH is currently Franchise Head, External Collaborations at GSK Vaccines. He has achieved a successful private and public sector record during his 23 year career in biologics development, with special expertise in flavivirus and poxvirus vaccines. These programs have led to seven registered vaccines. Niranjan joined GSK Vaccines in 2015 after 8 years at Novartis Vaccines where he served as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Americas and CMO North America, Head, External Collaborations and Special Projects, and Clinical Franchise Head, Medical Countermeasures, External Collaborations and Program Office. Niranjan served as an active duty infectious disease officer, including 10 years at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. He was subsequently VP, Medical Affairs & Pharmacovigilance at Acambis Inc. for 3.5 years, where he was responsible for medical oversight of seven investigational vaccines in clinical development. Niranjan is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, trained in pediatric infectious diseases and was chief resident in pediatrics at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, and has a master’s degree in tropical medicine and hygiene from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He is a Fellow of the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and of the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
