Rajesh Panda is Director of Strategy and Business Development at Philips Ultrasound. In his current role he is responsible for scouting and due diligence of potential M&A, equity investment, and partnership opportunities for the Ultrasound business. With his background in innovation, Rajesh also champions and works with early stage startups, venture funded incubators and universities for breakthrough solutions. Rajesh started his career in Medical Devices with Hewlett-Packard medical division (acquired by Philips Healthcare in 2001), working on new to the world “Purewave” piezo-crystal technology for ultrasound transducers. He has 6 US patents and 15+ publications in the area of piezolectric materials. His research resulted in significantly improvements in sensitivity and bandwidth of these devices, paving the way for the first 2D imaging transducer with a step increase in image quality in 2005. Rajesh then led a team to combine Purewave crystals with xMatrix technology for the first one probe real time 3D imaging solution for the heart which is a gold standard in the industry today. Since then Philips has released multiple devices with “Purewave” technology (and many years later other competitors) with great customer acceptance. Rajesh has also managed the innovation funnel and portfolio for transducers to incorporate new breakthrough technologies. Rajesh graduated with a B. Tech in Metallurgical Engineering and Material Science from IIT Bombay in 1994. He obtained his MS and PhD degrees in Ceramics and Materials Engineering from Rutgers University in 1998.
