Tom Madden joined Aquion as Senior Director of Research & Development in October 2015 and was named Vice President of Research, Development, and Test in 2016. He is responsible for technical roadmapping, R&D innovations and execution, and transfer of R&D innovations into Aquion’s process and product development streams. Tom brings 15 years of experience with electrochemical product development in fuel cells, electrolyzers, and advanced batteries. He has worked with organizations ranging from start-ups to Fortune 50 companies. Before joining Aquion, Tom was Senior Manager of Stack Development at Lockheed Martin Advanced Energy Storage (LMAES) in Cambridge, MA. LMAES was formed following the acquisition of MIT-spinout Sun Catalytix, where Tom directed the development of electrochemical stacks for hydrogen generation and energy storage applications. Tom also managed stack technology development at UTC Power for all transportation fuel cell programs and served in senior technical roles at United Technologies Research Center and Primus Power. Tom holds a PhD from the University of Washington, an MS from the University of New Mexico/Sandia National Labs, and a BS from the University of Cincinnati, all in Chemical Engineering.
